What is Dyspareunia?

Dyspareunia is a term used to describe recurrent and persistent pain within the genital or pelvic area with sexual intercourse.

What are the Symptoms of Dyspareunia?

  • Pain during penetration which can range from mild to severe sharp pain
  • Superficial Pain – pain upon initial penetration
  • Deep Pain – pain or discomfort in the deeper areas of the pelvis during intercourse and throbbing pain may even persist hours after intercourse.
  • Pelvic pain – which certain activities may worsen.
  • Pelvic cramping and muscle spasms.
  • Anxiety and Emotional distress which can negatively impact a relationship
